When it comes to Medicare, understanding your choices can feel overwhelming especially when you’re deciding between Medicare Advantage and Medigap (also called Medicare Supplement). Here’s a simple breakdown to help you decide which one might be right for you.

Medicare Advantage: One Plan, All-in-One Coverage

Medicare Advantage plans (also known as Part C) are offered by private insurance companies. They bundle your hospital (Part A), medical (Part B), and often prescription drug coverage (Part D) into one plan. Some plans even include extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, and gym memberships.

✅ Usually low or $0 monthly premiums

✅ Includes extra benefits

✅ Must use the plan’s provider network (HMO or PPO)

Best for people who want all-in-one coverage and don’t mind staying in a specific network.

Medigap: Fill the Gaps in Original Medicare

Medigap policies work alongside Original Medicare. They help cover out-of-pocket costs like deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. You keep Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and add a Medigap plan for extra protection. You’ll also need to enroll in a separate Part D plan for prescription coverage.

✅ Nationwide provider access no network restrictions

✅ Predictable costs and fewer surprise bills

✅ Monthly premiums are typically higher than Medicare Advantage

Best for people who want flexibility and travel often, or those who want help with out-of-pocket costs.
